Lasting Power of Attorney

Give authority to the people you trust

Lasting Power of Attorney allows you to give authority to the people you trust to deal with your financial affairs and health decisions should you be unable to make these decisions yourself. They are legally recognised documents that help your loved ones deal with anything that you would normally deal with on a day to day basis.

There are currently two types of Lasting Power of Attorney. These are administered and regulated by the Office of the Public Guardian.

  1. Property and Financial Affairs
  2. Health and Welfare

These can only be taken out while you have the necessary capacity to give instructions and understand the nature of your actions.

What happens if I haven’t set up Powers of Attorney?

Should your health deteriorate and you are unable to give clear instructions then Court of Protection control can be applied for, but this can end up with months of financial hardship, expensive legal fees and lengthy problems for your loved ones. Watch our video here to find out more.

“I asked J M Wills and Legal Services Limited to advise me on my current will and how to ensure that my wishes were followed in terms of my health and my finances. This was a delicate subject and Jan was very informative and understood exactly what I was trying to achieve. Her advice was invaluable and within a short space of time she very quickly produced a new will and Lasting Powers of Attorney. I am confident that everything is in place to safeguard my legacy and ensure my wishes are carried out in the future. I would have no hesitation in recommending J M Wills and Legal Services Limited to anyone and Jan is very understanding and knowledgeable.”
